DEVELOP PAPENBURG TOGETHER

Idea – Concept – Realisation – Future

Every success begins with a vision. The vision becomes an idea. The idea becomes an actual building.

In 2014 it was time to provide the city, which attracts 1.5 to 2 million tourists annually and enthusiastically at a central location, with a building that offers both locals and tourists a space to feel good and communicate.

The architectural design of the Arkadenhaus with its lively charisma is intended to invite and stimulate dialogue. We built clinker bricks from the 18th century, historic Ibbenbüren sandstone and constructed gables reminiscent of Papenburg’s past architecture. In combination with the St. Antonius church, the town hall and the brig “Friederike von Papenburg”, a panorama is created that invites you to dream and linger.

If the Arkadenhaus arouses your curiosity, then go through the spacious, barrier-free entrances around the house and enjoy our hospitality in the Friedrich Freiherr von Schwarzenberg Hotel or on the market place scene on the ground floor.

PLACE OF ENCOUNTER

The Marketplace

The central element on the ground floor is the light-flooded market square. Here you supply yourself with fresh fruit, vegetables and various products from our region from old wooden market stalls. In a relaxed atmosphere you will meet people who share a love of pleasure and communication.

On our marketplace we live an uncompromising service approach, which follows the motto “Here the guest becomes the host”. Various established system gastronomies already rely on a self-service concept, but none of the providers represented on the market gives the guest real autonomy. Our concept is truly co-designed by you.

Help yourself from the variation of fresh food on the market place, combine it with the pasta from the “express area” and give our chefs in the open kitchen the task of preparing everything according to your ideas. You will feel that our staff loves the challenge.

While preparing the always fresh and seasonal dishes, you can watch the chefs in the open kitchen slicing vegetables, seasoning sauces or roasting fish fillets.

In addition to our innovative gastronomy and service approach, the 1000 square metre experience world is characterised by various scene areas, such as a seating library, a café area with an integrated children’s corner, a cosy Australian-style fireplace lounge and an express area with a regional and interesting range of food, drinks and merchandise.

The breakfast and coffee area is recognisable by the real wood planks and driftwood ceiling. Old stoves from grandmother’s times have taken over the function of the tea and coffee bar and originally came from Oldenburg and Friesoythe. They have a long history and were discovered at a flea market in Amsterdam. Now they are again very close to their production sites.

If you like to read while eating, you can choose a copy from a selection of 3000 books in the “Sitzbibliothek” and then even take it home with you to finish it in peace. If you still have a few books at home that you have already read and would like to share, you can bring them with you.

The ice cream parlour “Giovanni L.” also sells pistachio ice cream, which won first place at the SIGA ice cream and food fair. Many of the still used recipes were handed down orally by his grandfather to the ice cream maker and German-Italian Giovanni Lasagna. Let yourself be seduced by the ice cream varieties “black vanilla”, “rhubarb with quark” and “wild berries with candied walnuts”.

Near the massive forged iron staircase on the market square you will find our tribute to our favourite café in Osnabrück. The furnishings are new and antique, modern and classic, playful and straightforward. The special: You can buy everything you see here and take it directly home with you.

On the market place every artist can “tinker” his own stage. With several individually combinable stage elements the desired form can be put together. It is not only approved, but expressly desired that everyone has the desire to realize in the arcade house.  You can either bring your guitar or the whole band with you. On request we support you with professional technical equipment.

Via the gallery, from where you can observe the hustle and bustle of the marketplace, you reach the conference and meeting rooms. These offer exclusive clubs, companies and groups space for undisturbed meetings.

ENJOY PAPENBURG LONGER

Hotel on the upper floor

The rooms of the Friedrich Freiherr von Schwarzenberg Hotel are on the upper floors. In 45 rooms, including three single and 42 double rooms and four suites, we invite tourists, business customers, families and locals to experience our hospitality.

Most of the rooms have barrier-free bathrooms. A so-called “walk in shower” with touch screen fittings, a huge glass pane with a room’s own motif and a rain shower lets you quickly forget stress and fatigue.

From the entrance side opposite the Papenburg town hall our guests look directly at the canal with the traditional ship “Friederike von Papenburg”. Weddings also take place on the ship. On the other side, the view from the upper and attic floors can wander to the 88 metre high church tower of St. Anthony’s Church and the church forecourt.

It remains to be said that Papenburg is the longest and oldest Fehnkolonie of Germany and a lived museum. In this city history and modernity are playfully combined. Exactly this is what we and our house are striving for: On the one hand there is our noble patron saint, who owned the estate around the castle “Papenborch” even before the city founder Dietrich von Velen, and on the other hand the modern equipment and technology of the house. The combined heat and power unit and the air conditioning system are presented worldwide as reference objects by the world market leader Mitsubishi.

It doesn’t matter if a business trip or your curiosity brought you to Papenburg – with the variety of the Arkadenhaus we try to fulfill all your wishes and our central location is ideal for business appointments, sightseeing and shopping.
